Speedys Annual Thanksgiving Tech Camp 2011 Welcome to another ski racing season and Speedys Annual Copper Mountain Thanksgiving Ski Camp! Following a series of successful Speedys Summer Camps at Mt Hood, Mark Archer aka Speedy along with Squaw Valley coach Tamara McKinney (First Amercian woman to win the overall World Cup )Jiminy Peak coach John Borwick, USST womens Team member Foreste Peterson, and his highly experienced USSA certified coaching staff are kicking off a Thanksgiving camp project to ensure that your season starts fast and gets faster! _______________________________________________________ Camp Location: Copper Mountain, Colorado Camp Dates: Total Dates: November 20, 2011 November 27, 2011. Training days: November 21st November 26th. ________________________________________________________ Why Speedys Camp: Through his many years of coaching, Speedy understands the importance of early season ski camps to develop younger racers technique and prepare them for the upcoming season. Speedys training methods provides a planned progression offering intense high level proven SL/GS technical training using varied terrain in association with strong gate and drill course sets. This is combined with a well-balanced free skiing progression, while utilizing private training lanes at Copper. Speedy will have USST womens Team member Foreste Peterson and other USST members on staff. ___________________________________________________________ Why Copper: Historically, Copper Mountain offers one of the best snow making systems with state of the art grooming giving us early season training not found anywhere else in North America. We have secured private training lanes ensuring the best conditions for training along with directed free-skiing. __________________________________________________________ Training Focus: Speedys camp a fantastic opportunity to jump start your individual ski racing skills by providing small group/small coach-to-athlete ratios and multiple training runs. The proven training progression offers an intense approach to fundamental skills, focusing on technique, tactics and individual achievement. This early season foundation will ensure a head start on your competition for this coming season and beyond! _________________________________________________________ Training Program: Speedys camp offers two training sessions per day, utilizing Coppers huge free skiing terrain area along with private training lanes. The focus is to provide a fundamental skills progression, which leads into modern slalom and giant slalom technique and tactics. Speedys team will utilize directed training methods in addition to video, planned gate sets to teach turn shape and pressure, and wireless timing systems. Athletes will be afforded to classroom off hill discussions to promote ski tuning, nutrition and mental conditioning. Each athlete will receive a personal DVD in addition to a written evaluation. ___________________________________________________________ Coaching Staff: Camp Program Director & Head Coach: Mark Archer. Mark, also known as Speedy offers 30 + years of ski race coaching experience, and a USSA Level 3 certified coach. Speedy most recently a former Head Mens Alpine coach with the Meadows Race Team (OR), the former Head Program Coach for the Loveland Racing Team (CO), while currently an Alpine FIS Program Coach for the Squaw Valley Ski Team in Tahoe California. Mark has helped a countless number of young athletes realize their goals, all who enjoyed many selections to their State, Regional Team , Junior Olympic Team selections and National Ski Team programs! _________________________________________________________ Assistant Coach: John Borwick. John was the former Head J3 Coach with the Holiday program in NY before moving out west to work as a J3/J4 Coach with MART. John was selected to work with the USST/National Development System in USSA Rocky/Central before returning back East to take on the position of Alpine J3 Coach with the Stratton Mountain School. John has since left SMS to take on the position of Alpine Coach with the Berkshire School and the Jiminy Peak Race Team. John is a USSA certified Coach, Alpine Official and Alpine Referee. _________________________________________________________ Assistant Coach: Tamara McKinney Squaw Valley coach, First american woman to win a overall World cup title, winner of 3 World cup titles, Gold medal World Championships Combined event, 18 individual World cup races, 10 times US National Champion. _________________________________________________________ Special Guest Coaches: In addition to Speedys Coaching Staff, joining us will Foreste Peterson USST Womens Team member, and other USST OR from the NCAA D-1 collegiate level athletes coaching and training along side you to ensure a truly world class training experience for all at Speedys camp. _________________________________________________________ Special camp features: A Tuning session will be held during the camp session with one of the current World Cup Service technicians that currently services one of the current USST athletes during the 2011/112 World Cup circuit. __________________________________________________________ Special Speedys Camp feature events: On 11/26 for those athletes that are interested Tamara Mckinney will be taking a van over to view the 2011 Aspen Womens World Cup Sl races. (This is dependent on the number of those that wish to attend instead of training on 11/26, (There is a transportation fee of $25.00) _________________________________________________________ After hours Tech n Tactics talks: Speedys staff + special guests will speak to all about on/off hill mental/tactical/motivation skills/tools, personal long/short term on/off snow tracking/goal planning, fueling yourself for success, fitness, event specialization or not, and equipment.
